Things I did not know

The PLU code on fruits and vegetables means something.

  • A four-digit number means it’s conventionally grown.
  • A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it’s organic.
  • A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it’s genetically modified.

Excellent information. I’ll try to shun anything starting with a 9 and seek out stuff beginning with 8 from now on.
