Fun fact: The Swedish title of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” is “Män som hatar kvinnor”. That translates to “Men Who Hate Women”.

True story:
I “friended” Owen on the Facebook sometime last summer. We’ve know each other since high school but never really interacted. So I requested his “friendship” and promptly posted the image above on his wall. This was in response to a cross stitch he had as his profile picture. It read “sniff glue, worship Satan.” Owen was taken by my love of nerdy cross stitch and we began a conversation where I introduced him to beefranck’s work via Mr. X-Stitch.
And the rest is history. Many summer coffee dates later and we are quite a nauseatingly adorable couple.
So thank you Bridget. Your flossy goodness was one of a few sparks that brought Owen and I together.

This makes my heart happy. ^_^

The greatest love story ever.

MILO MONTELLI - “URBAN BONSAI”

Just like the bonsai in the apartments, the trees that we often encounter in our cities contribute to make a more “balanced” space. Unlike bonsai however, these trees are not cared for by humans, despite being part of their private property. Sometimes plants will fit perfectly into the context, other times they create contrasts with the surroundings. These entities seem to have always existed and give the illusion of being able to exist for ever in that space. Resisting to urban’s changes and expasnion seem to keep the memories that no man will ever hold.

We live in a difficult but inspiring world, and there is so much out there that I want to record. However you cannot photograph everything, so I have to select subjects that throw light on the relationship I have with the world. This is often expressed as an ambiguity or a contradiction. Look at tourism, for example. We have an idea of what a famous site will look like as we’ve seen the photos – but when you get there, the reality is usually different. This rub between mythology and reality is the inspiration – and the contradiction.

(via Yellow Korner : Photograph : Mannequin, 1925 - Eugène Atget)

I was going through my Atget book when I saw this photo. It reminds me of a photo I took in Stockholm 2010. This connection had been on my mind shortly before I bumped into the above photo just now, but I can’t remember which photo sparked the connection. I wonder if I had seen this exact Atget photo before I made my mannequin photo. It’s more than likely, but not certain, but back then I was certainly an admirer of Atget and had seen some of his shop window mannequin photos if maybe not this exact one.

I was absolutely not consciously imitating Atget when I took the photo, but I do wonder where my fascination with mannequins, or more just photographing them, comes from.
